Introduction
This article outlines the pathway for a trader to engage with FTMO’s trading process, describing in detail each phase of evaluation—from initiation to live demo trading—with explicit rules, supported platforms, and account management principles.
Phase One: FTMO Challenge
Account Environment
Traders begin on a demo account using fictitious funds, yet experiencing real market conditions via FTMO’s price feeds and infrastructure. The system emphasises low latency and narrow spreads.
Evaluation Criteria
To succeed in the Challenge:
- Achieve a 10% profit target relative to starting balance.
- Adhere to maximum allowed daily drawdown and overall drawdown.
- Trade for at least four separate trading days.
There is no preset time limit—traders advance upon completion.
Advancement
Once the criteria are met, FTMO reviews results. Successful traders are granted login details for the Verification phase within approximately one to two business days.
Phase Two: Verification
Continuity and Purpose
This stage uses a similar demo environment to verify persistence and a sustainable approach to trading rather than one‑time profits.
Trading Requirements
- 5% profit target (half that of the Challenge stage).
- The same risk-limits apply.
- Minimum four trading days required.
Time remains flexible.
Final Evaluation
Meeting these objectives leads to identification verification and the contract signing process, granting access to an FTMO Account.
Phase Three: FTMO Account
Nature of Account
FTMO Accounts remain in demo mode but function via live market data feeds without exposing trader capital. All trading takes place in a controlled environment and is independent from FTMO’s proprietary trading activities.
Risk Controls and Profit Sharing
- No profit targets or trade frequency limits.
- Only maximum daily loss and total loss rules apply, scaled to account size.
- Traders may choose between “normal” or “aggressive” risk allocations.
- Profit split structure offers as much as 90% of gains.
Tradable Instruments and Strategy Guidelines
Market Access
Eligible assets include forex, indices, commodities, stocks, and cryptocurrencies—available according to the platform’s symbol list.

Login and Technical Setup
- Login credentials and server details provided through the FTMO dashboard.
- FTMO servers may need manual addition or scanning on MT4/MT5.
- cTrader and DXtrade support single sign‑on via cTrader ID.
- A stable and unrestricted internet connection is essential to prevent login issues.
Mobile and Web Trading
These platforms offer web-based and mobile versions:
- Web and app access is supported for MT4, MT5, cTrader, and DXtrade.
- Users must ensure correct server selection and avoid read‑only credentials.
Summary of Trading Journey

- Move to Verification, focus on consistency with reduced targets.
- Gain access to FTMO Account once both stages are passed.
- Trade within drawdown limits, across supported assets and platforms.
